It’s not too late to address bee, wasp activity

August 1, 2018 by Ohio State News

The peak summer months find most outdoor enthusiasts outdoors. Unfortunately, bees and wasps can interfere with summer fun, and activity this year is particularly high. If you missed out on a spring or early summer treatment from your exterminator, a call right away will protect your yard and family for the rest of the summer.

Bees and wasps begin seeking nesting areas as the weather begins to warm in the spring, but they peak in August, typically the hottest part of the summer. A warmer than normal June and an unusually hot July has caused these stinging insects to peak early. The wasp population, including yellow jackets, paper and mud dauber wasps, and bald-faced hornets is considerably large because of the mild winter and wet spring.

Wasps will typically nest in protected areas, such as eaves, beneath wood benches and deck edges, and under steps. You may also notice hornet nests on protected tree branches. Bee and wasp activity near family gathering areas or around the outside of your house should be addressed immediately. Human activity near a nest is perceived as a threat to these stinging insects and they frequently become aggressive.

Do not attempt to handle a wasp or hornet nest yourself using store bought sprays. These attempts rarely address the entire population and can be dangerous, especially in the event you or someone in your family is allergic to the venom.

At TNT Exterminating, our professionals use techniques and treatments that ascertain the entire nest is eliminated and that your home and yard are protected from future bee and wasp nests. Call today for help with your bee or wasp problem, or for treatment to address other mid-summer pests, including mosquitos and ants.
