Kitchen trends for the new year are focused on bringing a wide variety of colors and textures to space that continues to be the focal point of any home. From walls, to cabinets to appliances, the trend is for the bright and the unexpected.
Cabinets are now available in many colors, but this year you can’t miss with bright green or chartreuse. Combined with natural finished countertops in wood or concrete, your new kitchen provides a warm environment and a natural feel. Marble countertops also are enjoying new life, and combined with hardwood floors can create a varied texture that brings additional warmth to the space. Add an unexpected pop with appliances in dark shades, black, or bright blues and greens.
A central island continues to be a must-have in any modern kitchen, but look for even more convenience in 2020. Current designs are for multilevel islands or, in kitchens where space is not an issue, multiple islands to allow for easier prep and larger gatherings. The additional cabinet space beneath also is getting a new focus, with pet feeding pull-out stations as well as recycling stations within easy reach. Top your islands with a mixture of marble and butcher block counters for a unique look.
Technological advances are making it possible for any kitchen design to be more functional and more convenient than ever. With today’s fast-paced lifestyle, smart kitchens can do a lot to make things easier. A Google Home or Amazon Echo can do everything from answering a meal prep question to ordering groceries, or Alexa can turn on your timer or microwave.
Appliances also offer the latest in technology, including ovens that also air fry, eliminating the need for a countertop unit, and refrigerators equipped with produce drawers that filter out the ethylene gas that causes produce to rot. Look also for small in-sink dishwashers designed to wash 10 or fewer items for you.
