The summer months are upon us and Northeast Ohioans will be spending as much time as possible outside. This year many families may be planning a lot more time in their yards, from small gatherings to staycations that include additional amenities such as swimming pools, hot tubs and firepits.
Don’t let pests spoil the fun! Our unseasonably warm, wet spring has created a favorable environment for many of the pests we prefer to avoid, so pest control treatment is a must. Ticks and mosquitoes have already made their presence known and their populations are expected to be larger than usual with warmer temperatures having given them a head start. Ants of all varieties also thrive in these warm, wet conditions.
Pest control experts recommend keeping your yard clear of debris, clutter and standing water to discourage these pests. Unfortunately, they still will likely be around in abundance. Using mosquito repellent and checking pets and family members for ticks is wise, especially considering the serious diseases they can carry, including Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
With more yard activities on the agenda, homeowners also are encouraged to check frequently for bee and wasp activity. While their numbers may be somewhat lower due to weather conditions, they remain a threat, especially with nesting preferences being under decks, wood steps and in the eaves of your home or shed. Your pest control technician can guide you in where to look for possible nesting and infestation concerns.
